This week in Chasing Cars: Ranger wait times, Model Y review, 300 Series supply improvement and M3 Touring revealed

Welcome back to our weekly auto news and reviews wrap-up, where we find all the best stories of the week and boil them down to one easy read.

Week after week we bring you content about the cars, SUVs and utes you love the most, but if you thought the irony of the fact that these same vehicles are almost impossible to buy is lost on us – think again.

For various boring, constant, and really tragic reasons I won’t get into, waiting times on cars are now part of the woodwork in the industry, and that nonsense really came to a head this week when we confirmed the lead time on a new Land Cruiser that spanned the 70 Series to four years.

Wait times on some super-hot metals have faded in recent weeks

We’ve covered this issue extensively on popular models from both Ford and Toyota this week, and we’ll get back to you with more soon—and fear not, because it’s not all bad news.

For those of you who love high-performance cars, we’ve reviewed a full stack recently, from the Chevrolet Corvette and BMW M5 CS to the more reasonable and affordable Subaru WRX brochure and Hyundai i30 Sedan N Line.

We had a big week this time around and there’s a lot to cover, so let’s jump into it!

The Tesla Model Y has been showing up in the US since 2020 and two years later on Australian beaches, we finally had our chance to get behind the wheel.

Editor Tom Baker has put together a whole bunch of Y-style content, covering important issues like range and comparison testing you’ll see soon, but this week it was all about our in-depth, independent review, which can read or Watch here.

The lack of ride comfort was a major weakness of Tesla’s new SUV

On the whole, the Model Y is great, offering practical booting and access to a wider cargo net than its competitors, although Tom found the ride comfort was lacking in the rear-wheel drive look.

It’s worth noting that since we filmed our review, Tesla’s Trickster Animals have increased the price of the Model Y from $68,900 to $72,300 before road driving costs.

Improved display Toyota LC300

Despite ongoing factory-wide delays, Toyota has leveraged its massive manufacturing power to bring more than 3,750 Land Cruiser 300 Series models to Australia from the beginning of January to the end of May in 2022.

It’s an impressive feat considering the amount of technology that goes into the LC300, and the new stock builds on the initial customization of the 500 that came to Australia late last year.

The Land Cruiser 300 series supply seems to be improving

Despite the flow of supply, demand has not diminished, and traders reports chasing cars He told us buyers can expect to wait anywhere from 18 to 24 months for a new LC300.

Regardless, it’s clear that Toyota is slowly gaining ground due to the onslaught of initial interest in the new Land Cruiser – and the LC300 still outperformed the Nissan Patrol, turning 2835 from dealer position in the same period.

BMW M3 Touring revealed

After a series of teasers, BMW has officially unveiled the M3 Touring and announced that it will arrive on Australian shores between January and March in 2023.

This is the first time BMW M division has built an M3 in station wagon form, and it will be available exclusively in competition form with an eight-speed automatic transmission paired with the xDrive all-wheel drive system.

Chevrolet Corvette 2022-16
Journalist John Law reviews the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

All the cars and SUVs we reviewed this week:

Journalist John Law has now posted four months of his experience with the long-range Hyundai i20 N, and while I like it overall, it’s safe to say that some of the downsides are starting to fade.

Quite a few buyers choose to choose their BMW M4 with a manual transmission and after doing our full review, we think that’s pretty scary because it’s great to drive.

However, if what you’re after is a totally wild but well-arranged piece of machinery, editor Tom Baker believes the BMW M5 CS is worth the price the owners are asking for.

Some days are harder than others, Johnny? This week our esteemed colleague drove the much-anticipated Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C8 and found it generally living up to its reputation as an oddly practical yet suitably fast car.

The BMW M5 CS is a first-class car at high speed in a comfortable way

Deputy Editor-in-Chief Nathan Bonchard jumped in Subaru WRX sedan in RS manual look, Which is unfortunately the highest score you can catch with the three-pedal option, and I found this beautiful sedan to suffer as a result of some significant equipment exceptions.

If you want a vehicle that offers a balance between affordability, practicality and performance, I think the Hyundai i30 Sedan N Line should be at the top of your shortlist. Although its interior doesn’t quite live up to its “Premium” name, it’s a charming car with plenty of options.

The Mazda CX-5 mid-size SUV is a popular choice among Australian buyers And for good reason, so in Akera’s updated form, is it still worth a look at its competitors? We believe so.

Ford says it plans to phase out the focus in 2025
