The onslaught of BMW M GmbH continues on its fiftieth anniversary with the addition of a fourth model type to the BMW M3/M4 range alongside the sedan, coupe and convertible. The BMW M3 Touring will celebrate its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June 2022. The new BMW M3 Touring can be ordered from September 2022, prior to its market launch which will begin with production starting in November 2022 The BMW M3 Touring will be produced alongside Together with the BMW M3 sedan at the BMW Group plant in Munich.

The first BMW M3 Touring touring travels particularly impressive lengths to deliver on the traditional M promise of dynamic flair, agility and precision combined with unconstrained everyday practicality and mileage ability. The extravagant exterior design particularly highlights the car’s unique concept, ensuring clear differentiation within the lineup and a dynamic aura unmatched by any competitor.
The elegantly designed, sporty surfaces and shapes indicate the outstanding performance potential of the BMW M3 Touring, as do the design cues of M heavily invested in the functional requirements of cooling air handling and aerodynamic balance. Chief among these are the BMW vertically arranged frameless kidney grille, large side air intakes, powerfully sculpted wheel arches and prominently extended side skirts, which, together with the accessory parts for the front and rear aprons, form a high-gloss black stripe around the entire vehicle. Other distinguishing features are the M hatches in the front side panels and the exhaust pipes integrated into the rear apron to the left and right of the centre.
Whatever the exterior color of the BMW M3 Touring, the roof will be finished as standard in high-gloss black. Standard roof rails and the model’s Gurney air-guiding cover on the roof spoiler are painted in the same shade. The roof can also be finished in body color as an option, and the M Carbon exterior package can also be found in the options menu.
High-speed in-line six-cylinder engine.
The inline 6-cylinder engine version with M TwinPower Turbo technology developed for competition models in the BMW M3/M4 range produces a maximum power of 375 kW/510 hp and a torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft). The 3.0-liter, straight-six, the revving M-engines renowned for, combined with sustained linear power delivery in the higher load ranges, is the foundation of the unit in the new BMW M4 GT3 endurance race car. Its cooling and oil supply systems are designed to handle extremely high longitudinal and lateral dynamic forces on the track. The M exhaust system with electrically controlled panels creates an emotional soundtrack that brings an extra layer to the performance experience.
The engine is joined by an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, which offers three gearshifts and can be operated using the paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The engine’s power is directed to the road via the M xDrive all-wheel drive system, which is combined with the active M differential at the rear axle. Distributing power as needed across all four wheels improves the traction of the BMW M3 Competition Touring with M xDrive, as well as its agility and directional stability. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 3.6 seconds and a sprint from 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) takes just 12.9 seconds. Choosing the M Driver’s Package increases the electronically limited top speed from 250 km/h (155 mph) to 280 km/h (174 mph).
In addition to the basic all-wheel drive setup, the driver can also select a sport all-wheel drive mode through the setup menu. This provides a more intense rear-bias tuning experience for the M xDrive system. Turning off DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) turns on two-wheel drive – also known as pure rear wheel drive -.
The perfect balance between long-distance performance and comfort.
Chassis technology tuned to the performance of the powertrain and the vehicle concept specific to the BMW M3 Touring strike a perfect balance between sporty performance and impressive ride comfort in everyday use and on long journeys. Detailed fine-tuning was carried out as part of extensive testing on racetracks, country roads and urban roads. The high torsional rigidity of the bodyshell and body mounts adds agility, dynamics and precision to the vehicle, and is further enhanced by model-specific strut elements in the floor section and loading compartment.
Both the double-jointed strut-spring front axle and the five-link rear axle feature M-specific kinematics and combine a lightweight design with particularly high rigidity. Adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers and M Servotronic variable-ratio steering is standard on the BMW M3 Touring. The integrated braking system offers two pedal feel settings. The carbon-ceramic M brakes can be ordered as an alternative to the standard composite braking system. Meanwhile, 19-inch (front) and 20-inch (rear) M light-alloy wheels are fitted as standard and can be customized with track tires as an option.
The DSC system includes wheel slip restraints built into the engine control unit. In addition to the M dynamic mode, the BMW M3 Touring also includes the M traction control function as standard. In the two-wheel drive (2WD) mode of the M xDrive system, the driver can adjust the stepping stones to reduce wheel slip in ten stages in order to carefully approach the physical limits in difficult turns on the track.
Racing feel in the cockpit, the rear cabin is versatile.
The BMW Curved Display will be standard on the BMW M3 Touring since launch. It offers a new interpretation of cockpit design focused on providing an intense performance experience. The entire digital display assembly consists of a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch diagonal screen control screen. It is placed behind a single glass surface that is tilted at an angle towards the driver. The infotainment display behind the steering wheel displays all relevant driving information with new graphics in an M style. M widgets with information about vehicle setup and tire status can be displayed on the main screen of the Control Display. The BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific content is offered as an option.
Power-adjustable M sport seats with memory function and seat heating as well as Merino leather trim are standard on the BMW M3 Touring. The optional M Carbon seats for driver and front passenger offer a unique symbiosis of sporty feel, lightweight design, luxurious workmanship and long-distance comfort. The use of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) in the structural elements of the seat cushion and backrest, along with the slots in the side struts and under the headrests, saves 9.6 kg over the standard M Sport seats.
The rear of the BMW M3 Touring has three full-size seats. The backrest of the rear seat can be divided in a ratio of 40:20:40. Folding the individual seat sections or all at the same time allows the car’s load capacity to be increased from 500 liters to a maximum of 1510 liters, as needed. Automatic operation of the tailgate and rear window that open separately is standard. A stowage compartment under the boot floor provides space for the boot lid and the boot partition grille. Anti-lock bars that rise automatically from the boot floor can be ordered as an option. These prevent luggage from sliding in dynamic driving situations.
M Drive Professional and BMW Map Navigation as standard.
Comfort-enhancing features fitted as standard on the BMW M3 Touring include automatic three-zone climate control, BMW Live Cockpit Plus including BMW Maps navigation, ambient lighting, a high-resolution speaker system, and an interior and exterior mirror assembly. Customers can also benefit from a wide range of automated driving and parking systems. Forward Collision Warning, Speed Limit Display with No Overtaking Indicator, Lane Departure Warning and Park Distance Control are standard. Among the available options, Professional Driving Assistant with steering and lane control assistant, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Active Traffic Light Detection and Active Navigation, as well as Park Assist with Reverse Assist.
The M’s start/control system includes the setup button, which provides direct access to settings options for the engine, chassis, steering, braking system and M xDrive. Two of the comprehensive vehicle settings can be stored and recalled using the M buttons on the steering wheel. In addition to the M traction control system, the standard M Drive Professional also has an M Drift Analyzer and M Laptimer.
The M Mode button in the center console can be used to adjust the responses of the driver assistance systems and the content shown in the information display and the head-up display. BMW M3 Touring drivers can also choose from the Road, Sport and Track settings.
The latest generation of the BMW iDrive car experience system in the BMW M3 Touring is the embodiment of progressive digitization. Based on the BMW 8 operating system, it has been designed in tandem with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and the BMW Directly Curved Display to provide intuitive interaction between driver and vehicle using natural speech and touch control. The new BMW iDrive software enables personalization via the BMW ID and the My BMW app, as well as the use of the personal in-vehicle eSIM. Smartphone integration for CarPlay® and Android Auto™ use is also part of the standard specification. 5G compatible antenna system provides improved connectivity.
